A good creative director spans disciplines and can basically plug into any problem. Specifically, in my sixteen years in the industry I’ve done the following:
IP creation from initial concept, pitch development, greenlighting and prototyping
Game Direction (design, art, audio, music, story, code)
Writing and narrative design, including editing, casting, voice direction and implementation
Studio Creation and Leadership, including staffing, finances and operations.
QA and the grunt work of getting a finished product out of the door
Publisher liaison and working with marketing and brand teams
Marketing and PR
Mentoring and support initiatives
I’ve also sat on juries, once wrote a column for GamesTM, am a passionate advocate and ally of inclusion and diversity programmes, and even sang the closing track on A Machine for Pigs (it’s a long story).
The games I’ve created and directed have received:
3 BAFTA wins, 14 Nominations
2 Apple Design Award nominations, 1 Win
4 DICE award nominations
2 nominations and 1 win at the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain awards
9 TIGA Awards wins and another 8 nominations
3 Develop Awards and another 4 nomimations
And wins and nominations at GCD Choice, IGF, NAVGTR, Golden Joystick, European Game Awards, PocketGamer, GANG, Amaze! and South by SouthWest (SXSW)
